Kampot is one of the upcoming destinations for tourists travelling in Cambodia. The small town itself has a laid-back atmosphere with nice restaurants and places to stay, beautiful colonial buildings and a busy market, but without the hectic so prevalent in Phnom Penh or the amount of tourists of Siem Reap. The very diverse places to visit are scattered around the town. The beach is near, there are grottos to discover, pepper plantations to visit and hills to climb. Important for the atmosphere is the river running through the town. Many trips are possible on the river, from kayaking on your own to joining huge crowds on a party boat. We preferred a trip with a few people on a converted fishing boat at the best time of the day, around sunset. The clouds cooperated to shoot a few georgeous pictures, but the fireflies were too shy to be photographed.
