Nyungwe National Park

P1030068 (Large)Measuring more than 1.000 km2, Nyungwe is the largest mountainous rainforest in East Africa. Because of the altitude, between 1.600 and more than 2.900 metres, the temperature is cool (during daytime) to cold (in early morning and at night) and there is an enormous variety of different plants. The park is home to 13 kinds of primates, among which chimpanzees and the endemic L’Hoest monkey (which the Rwandans can’t pronounce, so they become “mountain monkeys”), besides more than 300 varieties of birds and 200 kinds of trees. A lot to see!
